Museum Mondays

I LOVE summer break. The sunshine, popsicles on the porch, watermelon, and sleeping in . . . ‘till 6:30 am . . . all make my heart sing. If we aren't careful, summer break can also get pretty pricey. My peeps and I tend to eat more and in an effort to get out of the house, we sometimes find ourselves spending money on entertainment that we don’t have. Last summer I started making seasonal bucket lists. They serve as a great way to add a little adventure to everyday life. You can find our Spring Bucket List here.

Last week we went to the museum and explored a little. We had a lot of fun! Honestly, because she is 7, I was nervous that Little Miss would be bored with all of the artifacts and information, but she learned so many things. She asked tons of questions and touched everything.  While we were walking to a local cookie shop, she said, “Let’s make Mondays, Museum Mondays!”

You got it, sister.

I like the idea of having something to look forward to each day. This ‘structure’ tames the insanity in our house. Of course, there will be days that we lounge around and relax. However, if the words, "I'm bored", come from Little Miss' mouth, these ideas serve as a great plan to have on hand.
Monday

Museum Monday / This day is all about exploration and discovery. Monday can be the day you learn something new about your environment.

·         Visit Museums (Art, Historical, Children’s)

·         Explore your town by walking. Talk about what you see, hear, and feel.

·         Visit Historical landmarks in your town

·         Drive to a neighboring town and explore

·         Visit a local shop you’ve never been to and browse. Give everyone two bucks and see what treasures you can buy.

Tuesday

Library Tuesday/ This day is all about reading, writing and learning. It’s important to diminish the width of the literacy gap that tends to develop over the summer.

·         Visit the Library (There are a lot of fun summer activities including reading clubs. They serve as a great incentive to keep your babies reading.)

·         Have your kids write in a journal

·         Draw names of family members from a hat and write a letter to the person whose name you chose

·         Read a book as a family and discuss the characters, problem, and solution. Have your kids make connections with the characters

·         Write a family poem

·         Play an educational board game

Wednesday

Wingin’ It Wednesday/ This is the day where anything goes.

·         Enjoy a playdate

·          Lounge in pajamas

Pool/Park Thursday/ Vitamin D is good for the soul. This is the day to get outside and let the kids move.

·         Water Park (They tend to have discount days)

·         Sprinklers

·         Pool/Beach

·         Playground/Picnic

·         Water Hose in the front yard

Friday

Film Friday/ You can never go wrong with a good movie and snacks.
